The challenge

Mapping processes, particularly medical treatment pathways, is often done manually using visual tools like Visio, while the related financial models are created using spreadsheets like Excel.  Creating a visual pathway model that has computational and simulation capabilities usually involves expensive modelling software that requires training to use and expertise to set up and run.

The challenge was to create a simple and intuitive way of visualising and modelling pathways that could be used by everyone after minimal training.

The solution

Our ‘Pathway Modeller’ enables users to rapidly create realistic medical treatment pathways, using an easy ‘drag and drop’ interface for each step. These steps can then be computationally linked by simply drawing a line between them, creating a sophisticated simulation model.

The outcome

Non-specialists can now gain an overview of the entire treatment pathway. The model enables detailed insights into patient demand, capacity bottlenecks and the dynamic impact of additional or reallocated resources.
