NHS data: Numbers that make sense for both payors and customers

The challenge

IQVIA are one of the world’s largest suppliers and integrators of healthcare datasets, some of which is sourced from public data provided by the NHS in the form of QOF and HES statistics. They wished to provide their clients with ‘contextual information’ for a specific therapy area or condition, and to be able to present this for a specific local Healthcare Authority.

The existing method of maintaining and distributing this information was via Excel spreadsheets which were both time consuming to create and complex to distribute to clients and their sales staff – processes prone to error.

In addition, presenting healthcare datasets within spreadsheets has several issues: finding the right therapy area information quickly, limiting this to the appropriate Health Authority and demonstrating the data’s relevance – all while in-call with a busy customer.

The solution

We created a two-part solution: Firstly, an online management system enabled research staff to upload datasets to the central database, with the ability to structure and display different chart options. Secondly, an iPad app that allowed field-based users to rapidly find, filter and view the relevant data and charts. The user can add these charts to a PDF document and send them directly to the professional as a follow-up.

Functionality

  • Flexible Database

Cloud database enables different data-file structures to be uploaded and distributed to different mobile app users

  • Visually Engaging

A range of dynamic chart types and tables can be quickly created and then automatically downloaded to the iPad

  • Interactive Modelling

Incidence and prevalence models for specific country, regions & CCGs ensure relevance

  • Ease of Use

The mobile app is easy and intuitive to use, displaying information for specific CCGs, so creating a market context for pharmaceutical sales teams

The outcome

Data visualisations relevant to specific therapy areas added significant value to IQVIA’s datasets, while the system’s user management functions ensure the correct distribution of visualisations. Additionally, the app works offline guaranteeing the data is always available.
